The auction proceeds were distributed as follows:

  • 69% to the treasury
  • 9% to fantasy leagues (3% for 3 years)
  • 12% to NounBA founders
  • 9% to NounsDAO
  • 1% to Protocol Guild

NounBA DAO utilizes NounBA DAO's fork of Compound Governance and is the main governing body of the NounBA ecosystem. The NounBA DAO treasury received 69% of ETH proceeds from the 34 NounBA auctions. Each of the 40 NounBAs is an irrevocable member of NounBA DAO and entitled to one vote in all governance matters. NounBA votes are non-transferable (if you sell your NounBA the vote goes with it) but delegatable, which means you can assign your vote to someone else as long as you own your NounBA.

In addition to the precautions taken by Compound Governance, the NounBA founders have given themselves a special veto right to stop proposals that introduce non-trivial legal or existential risks to the NounBA DAO, including (but not necessarily limited to) proposals that.

  • unequally withdraw the treasury for personal gain
  • bribe voters to facilitate withdraws of the treasury for personal gain
  • attempt to alter Noun auction cadence for the purpose of maintaining or acquiring a voting majority
  • make upgrades to critical smart contracts without undergoing an audit

The NounBA founders consider the veto an emergency power that should not be exercised in the normal course of business. In the future, the NounBA DAO aims to replace this veto power with another more robust solution.

NounBA is made up of 40 1-of-1 artworks inspired by basketball culture.

NounBAs are stored directly on Ethereum and do not utilize pointers to other networks such as IPFS. This is possible because similar to Nouns, NounBA artwork is compressed and stored on-chain using a custom run-length encoding (RLE), which is a form of lossless compression.

The compressed parts are efficiently converted into a single base64 encoded SVG image on-chain. To accomplish this, each part is decoded into an intermediate format before being converted into a series of SVG rects using batched, on-chain string concatenation. Once the entire SVG has been generated, it is base64 encoded.
